Position Opening:
Web Development Assistant

This opportunity provides a means to develop rich, functional web content and to create meaningful user experiences through the unique junction of culture and technology.

The main duties include developing website content (including PHP coding, CSS, and basic layout work).

Other duties vary based on ability and interest, but may include troubleshooting hardware and software issues on the Museum’s network (90% Apple), possible database development, and more.

Responsible, dedicated, and conscientious service is expected, and the opportunity for growth (in skills and responsibilities) is significant. Those who work well with others and can manage multiple projects at once will excel in this position.

Required Qualifications:

  • active UIUC undergraduate student standing
  • experience in a web-based programming and/or database language (PHP, SQL, Java, etc.)
  • experience creating web pages
  • strong attention to detail
  • organized and efficient at multitasking, in order to manage multiple concurrent projects
  • able to learn processes and ideas quickly (and independently, if necessary)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • passion for the needs of users
  • ability to independently troubleshoot malfunctioning software and hardware
  • availability during academic breaks

Schedule and Wages:

  • Scheduled work hours are flexibly defined from 8:30 am–5:00 pm weekdays at 10–20 hours per week.
  • Federal Work-Study students are encouraged to apply.
  • Academic break work is available up to 30 hours/week.
  • The rate of pay is $12/hr.

Start Date

The start date is flexible between Summer 2019 and the beginning of Fall 2019, based on skills, interest, and availability.
