East Asia: "Invention, Exchange, Endurance"
- Duration:Permanent
- Location:Workman Gallery of Asian Cultures
China, Japan, and Korea are lands of both stability and change. Long-standing traditions and beliefs such as Confucianism, Buddhism, Daoism, and Shintoism help to create cultural unity. The Chinese writing system and governmental structures provided models for the development of local forms in Japan and Korea. The invention of paper, printing, gunpowder, porcelain, silk, and the compass contributed to trade, travel, the dissemination of knowledge, and cultural exchange in Asia as well as in the rest of the world.
