How Art Communicates
Around the globe, art is used to express thoughts, alter opinions, teach lessons, and create impressions. The works discussed include contemporary pieces from Papua New Guinea, the American Indian painting Tree of Life by Ojibwe artist Blake Debassige, statues and friezes from the Ancient Mediterranean, multicultural folktales, and a pincushion from WWII.
Theme: Around the World

What is a world cultures museum? From statues to armor, mummies to masks, we exhibit artifacts that illustrate the shared challenges of humanity and celebrate the diverse ways cultures respond to them. Many of our tours address the factors that influence the needs of body, mind, and spirit and, in turn, the ways in which human beings live differently.
